Girl, 17, Attacked March 18th, 2009
On Wednesday March 18th a 17 year old girl was bitten on her right foot while surfing just south of Ponce De Leon Inlet near New Smyrna Beach. Her injuries were minor enough that she needed only a bandage.
New Smyrna or, more accurately, Volusia County Florida, is the shark attack capital of the world. Most attacks in this area are minor and rarely require more than stitches. Most bites occur near Ponce De Leon Inlet where bull sharks are prevalent.
