Chris Haynes Jr., 56, Bitten Augest 3rd, 2009

56 year old Chris Haynes Jr. of Mississippi was bitten at Breton Sound, a bay near the Gulf of Mexico that is next to the Mississippi River. He was fishing with his son. The attack happened around 10 AM. Mr. Haynes was bitten on the foot by an unidentified shark. He was transported by helicopter to the coast where he was then transported by ambulance to a hospital. He will keep his foot but needs extensive surgery.

Zach Skyring, 14, Attacked July 30th 2009

14 year old Zach Skyrin was surfing with his father off Broken Head near Byron Bay Australia when a shark bumped him off of his surf board. The shark is believed to have been a 1.5 meter bronze whaler. The boy was not seriously injured suffering only a few puncture wounds to his arm. He and his father paddled out to warn other surfers. The attack happened at about 6:00 AM.

Derek Mitchell, 14, Bitten July 31st, 2009

Derek Mitchell was bitten by a 7 foot bull shark while spear fishing off of Spanish Cay in the Bahamas. He was spear fishing with his father and family friends on July 31st, 2009. They saw a few sharks in the area but were not concerned until one came closer to investigate a fish they had just speared. The shark bit onto Derek Mitchell’s calf.

His family chartered a plane to West Palm Beach where he was treated and expected to make a good recovery. He should be walking within weeks even though the shark punctured his Achilles tendon. He was treated at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Deidre Casas, 14, Bitten on July 28th, 2009

Deidre Casas was bitten by a small shark while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico off of South Padre Island, Texas. She was swimming near a sandbar when she felt something tugging at her leg. When she looked at her foot she “saw blood everywhere.” She was able to swim to shore. Doctors believe her wound was inflicted by a small shark based on xray evidence.
