Garrett Gollihugh, 11, Bitten on November 24th, 2009

Garrett Gollihugh was playing around in the ocean near Lori Wilson Park at Cocoa Beach when he was attacked by a shark. The attack occurred while he was on vacation with his family. The boy was bitten twice by an unknown shark while in waist deep water.

Unknown 18 Year Old Bitten on November 11th, 2009

An unnamed 18 year old male from Lake Mary was bitten while surfing near the south jetty of Ponce De Leon inlet at New Smyrna. The fish was estimated to be about 4 feet in length. The victim suffered a bump, cuts, and gashes to his shin and calf. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and at a nearby hospital.

Melissa Hardcastle, 27, Bitten on November 13th, 2009

Melissa Hardcastle, a 27 year old woman from Jupiter Florida was bitten near Carlin Park in Florida. The attack happened while she was surfing at about 5 PM. Ms. Hardcastle believes it was a spinner shark that bit her foot though she never saw the fish. The shark left 26 puncture wounds in her foot requiring surgery and many stitches. She was treated and released from Jupiter Medical Center.

Dean Brougham, 24, Attacked November 8th, 2009

Dean Broughman was attacked by a shark while spear fishing on November 8th, 2009. He was swimming about 20 meters from shore when he felt a tugging on his leg. He turned to see an approximately 3 meter long shark. He fought the shark and was able to break free.

He was able to swim to shore despite serious injuries to his achilles tendon. Though his injuries require surgery he’s happy to be alive and retaining all of his limbs.

Eric Geiselman, 21, Attacked November 5th, 2009

Pro surfer Eric Geiselman, a Floridian, was attacked by what he believed to be a great white shark while surfing. He was surfing for fun between heats of the Cold Water Classic surfing competition in Santa Cruz, California when the attack happened. The attack happened at dusk. He was struck from below with enough force to break his board in two.

Mr. Geiselman suffered no physical injuries from the incident.
