John Sojoski, 55, Bitten on December 26th, 2009

55 year old John Sojoski was bitten by a shark on December 26th, 2009 at Avoca Beach in Australia. He was playing in the water with his 12 year old granddaughter at about 11 AM. He suffered lacerations to his leg and was treated at Gosford Hospital. The type of shark is not known.

Peter Frazer, 27, Attacked on December 22nd, 2009

Peter Fraser was bitten by a bull shark on December 22nd, 2009 in Ponta d’Ouro. Ponta d’Ouro is just north of South Africa in Mozambique. He was in water that was about shoulder deep when the bull shark struck. He estimated the shark to be 2 meters in length. He suffered a 20cm gash on his back as well as multiple chunks of missing flesh from his right shoulder, right forearm, chest, and right hand. He was treated initially at Empangeni Hospital.

Tshintshekile Nduva, 22, Killed December 18th, 2009

22 year old lifeguard Tshintshekile Nduva was attacked and killed by a shark while knee boarding. The attack happened at approximately 2:30 PM. He was off duty when the attack happened. His friend witnessed the attack saying that he heard his friend scream, raise his hands up, and then disappear while the water turned blood red. Early reports said that no remains have been found.

John Pengelly, 19, Attacked on December 19th, 2009

19 year old John Pengelly was spear fishing at Lamont Reef when a three meter bull shark came from below and attacked him. He suffered wounds to his wrist and lower forearm.

Nigel Hughes, 39, Bitten December 13th, 2009

Nigel Hughes was bitten by an unidentified shark at about 7 AM on Sunday December 13th, 2009. The attack occurred while he was surfing at Coffee Rock, north of Evans Head in NSW Australia. As he was about to stand on his board he felt the shark strike. He reported that it felt like a baseball bat. The bit nearly severed his big toe. He caught a wave back to the beach where friends wrapped his toe and transported him to a hospital. He reported that he will be back in the water as soon as he can walk again.
