Alaina DeBina was paddle boarding with her three year old grandson looking for turtles at Layman Beach near Kona, HI when she was attacked by a shark. She and her grandson were knocked off of the board just before noon. She then saw the shark which bit her board. Based on the bite officials estimate the shark was about 16 feet in length. She was about 30 feet from shore.
