Alaina DeBina was paddle boarding with her three year old grandson looking for turtles at Layman Beach near Kona, HI when she was attacked by a shark. She and her grandson were knocked off of the board just before noon. She then saw the shark which bit her board. Based on the bite officials estimate the shark was about 16 feet in length. She was about 30 feet from shore.
An unnamed man was killed by a shark while spear fishing at Cape Vidal in Southern Africa. The attack occurred during the middle of the day. He suffered wounds to his thigh and was declared dead when medical personal were not able to resuscitate him.
Anthony Segrich was bitten on his left calf twice by a twelve foot bull shark while spear fishing about three miles from Lake Worth Inlet near Palm Beach, FL. He was rushed to the hospital by friends where he has undergone surgery to repair the missing skin and fat from his calf. He is expected to recover and plans to return to spear fishing.
He was treated with 126 stitches at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Riviera Beach.
49 year old Ronald White, a surfer from Deltona, was bitten by a shark on April 22nd, 2011 at New Smyrna Beach. Mr. White was returning to shore and in about 3 feet of water when the small shark bit him. He refused transport to Bert Fish Medical Center.

An unnamed boy, 17, was bitten on the heel by a shark while taunting the animal with dead fish. The bite occurred at about 9 PM on April 23rd, 2011. He was treated overnight at a local hospital then flown to Perth for treatment.

30 year old Metereti Jeke was bitten by a shark while fishing at Udu in Vanua Levu, Fiji. Mr. Jeke sustained massive injuries to his forearm. A rope was tied to his arm to slow the bleeding. He was transported by ambulance to Metereti to Nabouono Health Centre. He was referred to Lagi Medical Centre.

An unidentified tourist, believed to be Russian, ignored warnings from lifeguards and entered waters at Gaviotas Beach in Cancun Mexico. She received a 20cm laceration on her foot. She was approximately 100 meters from shore when she was attacked.

Surfer Dave Pearson was attacked by a 2.5 meter shark while surfing off of Crowdy Head in the evening. The shark. The shark bit through his board and into his left forearm. The attack occurred at approximately 6:45 PM. His friend pulled him to shore. The type of shark was not mentioned. He was airlifted to John Hunter hospital.

24 year old Lisa Mondy was attacked by a great white shark while waiting for a boat to pick her up after coming off of her wakeboard. The fish grabbed her head and pulled her under water. She was treated at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. She suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, shoulder, and left arm.
The attack occurred near Jimmys Beach at Port Stephens.
